How to Create a Google Sheets Dashboard

Creating a dashboard in Google Sheets can be achieved through various methods, whether it's by utilizing ready-made templates or building one from scratch. Dashboards are particularly useful to evaluate sales and marketing performance or track project tasks. If you are building one from scratch, you are going to need a good level of mastery of advanced functions, like XLOOKUPS, VLOOKUPS, INDEXMATCH, SUMIFS, and most importantly the QUERY function.

Often, your best bet is to start with an existing template and customize it to your own needs. Here at Dokin we have built a template of ready-made templates. Each template will help to monitor essential metrics and monitor things like sales process or marketing activity.

Steps to Create a Basic Dashboard in Google Sheets

To create a basic dashboard, you will need to start by compiling the relevant data in a Google Sheets spreadsheet. You will then need to define the performance metrics and KPIs (key performance indicators) that you want to track and visualize. Then, based on that you can set up the dashboard using google sheet's formulas, pivot tables, pie charts, graphs, gantt charts and other visualization tools within Google Sheets to represent the data in a meaningful way.

Utilizing Templates for your Google Sheets Dashboards

One of the most efficient ways to get started with dashboards is by utilizing pre-existing templates. Templates provide a structured framework and can significantly expedite the dashboard creation process. A pre-built dashboard helps gain time and experience with such tools and make you shine when you provide data and presentations to your stakeholders.

Here at Dokin we have built free dashboards templates for you to easily get up and running. And the big plus is that you can use the Dokin add-on to power each dashboard with live data from your systems.

Getting started with one (or more!) of our templates is easy! (video tutorial here).

1) Visit our free templates page, browse the different options and select the template you want.

2) Once you click on the template, you will be redirected to its specific page. Click on "GET FREE TEMPLATE":

3) A Google Sheets preview will open, on the top right click on "USE Template".

A copy of the sheets template will be created in your drive and open automatically. Once the copy of the template will open, you will see a Dokin sidebar on the right, click on USE. This will launch the Dokin add-on.

You will see a connection to the system powering the dashboard (in the example Google Analytics), and powering a data tab marked by the "🔗" symbol.  Click on "Connect" to connect your own account.

Once you have done that, simply refresh the connection and see your dashboard come to life with data from your platforms!
